Euonymus alatus 'Compactus' from Shirleyellenp

The Burning Bush has an outstanding red fall color when the deep dark red leaves almost glow with. The plant has inferior fall color and reduced density in shade. Burning Bush transplants easily and may be sheared. The corky wings on the twigs hold winter snow, outlining the branch structure. The orange and red fruit is ornamental if produced in quantity, but plants vary in the amount of fruit they produce. Burning Bush is a favorite winter food of rabbits and mice. This deciduous bush withstands acidic or alkaline soils and a wide range of temperatures. Established plants can take some drought too.

Our  tree which is about 4 years old. It has not bloomed much last summer and I think the reason for it was because we had a very dry summer. Hydrangeas need water ! A lot! But I had it blooming the previous year. To make a long story short, here are the blooms I did cut off in the fall 3 years ago. They have been in a vase ever since and still give me pleasure

The Blooms are white in summer and have a tendency to turn pink as the blooms age. You can leave them on the tree all winter . The golden (in winter) blooms add very nice to the Winter scene.

This bloomed nicely for me 2 years ago, not much last summer. It turns golden in the Autumn and looks nice in the snow. Sorry I did not make a picture then. Here is one photo from the summer 2006. Hope I don't have to apologize that the color is "white". Can be nice too, don't you think?
