A large group of members met on a warm summer's day at Knebworth in Hertfordshire, where our very own Dave is the Head Gardener and had kindly offered to act as host for the day. Dave explained that the present layout of the gardens dates largely from Victorian & Edwardian eras, with continuing restoration and more recent additions.

In The Wilderness, a 7-acre area of fine ornamental trees, a wooden totem pole has been carved entirely with a chainsaw and the Cornus Kousa Chinensis was in full flower. Mid-tour, George, Norman and Moth enjoyed a well earned rest amongst the lavender in the beautifully fragrant Walled Garden.

The Jekyll Herb Garden in the pic to the right hand side below was beautiful. The pattern of 5 circles was first designed in 1907, but not laid out until 1982 as the plans had been mislaid during the intervening years.

After a very informative and interesting garden tour, Dave and his wife Jill made everyone very welcome back at Gardeners Cottage, where they had prepared a fantastic spread. This was topped off with Bunty's famous fruit pies. Below, some of the group in Dave's garden - L to R: GillEssex & hubby Del, Kitty, Paul, George, Jill53, Dave, Jean, Bunty, Moth & Norm.

It was a memorable day thoroughly enjoyed by all, and Dave has even been daft enough to offer to do it all again for us next year!
