Lyn & Malcolm's amazing garden near Ferndown in Dorset, was open for The National Gardens Scheme on the Sunday afternoon and Dawn (FlowerofShona) had been crazy enough to offer to host an evening BBQ at her home nearby. What started out as a small meet of maybe 4-6 soon turned into a monster meet as the numbers quickly rose to around 35!

Whilst some peeps spent the Sunday morning settling into local guest houses and hotels, Sal and Dot met up with Bryony, Martin and Pens at Knoll Gardens, a local nursery and gardens specialising in grasses and perennials.

The gardens were beautiful, highly recommended if you are in the area, and the nursery had some more unusual grasses for sale.

After a leisurely wander round the gardens, Bryony kindly made everyone lunch in the motorhome. Following lunch, it was off to Lyn & Malcolm's and oh, what a treat lay in store!

It is easy to see why Lyn & Malcolm's garden won prizes in three categories in Ferndown in Bloom in 2001 and "Best Front Garden" and "Best Back Garden" in 2002. Their compact garden - the front approx 16 x 10m and the back just 12 x 10.5 m, are heaving from all directions with the lushest healthiest plants you have ever seen. Lyn & Malcolm had kindly opened the garden early especially for RG members, and a large crowd of us thronged in and must have bought most of the plants on the well-stocked plant stall before anyone else could get a look in! Thanks guys for showing us how a garden should look.

The front garden (above) is packed full of perennials, lilies, roses, ferns and hostas as well as most of Lyn & Malcolm's collection of 86 different clematis, all intertwining and jostling for space.

Dawn & hubby John laid on the most amazing spread for us in their garden on the Sunday evening. Sal & Bryony were presented with a birthday cake made by Dawn and we all laughed and nattered late into the evening. Pip had the good sense to retire with dignity to her hotel; some of us were still there to be caught on camera the following morning ;-)
