Hi Ray.

We have had several suggestions from people about splitting up the forums into different sections and it is certainly something we will do when we have grown a bit bigger.

We are a very young site and once the postings get too heavy for one forum they will get divided up.

We have several members who are keen veggie growers - notably Allan Veggie who, in his retirement, has obtained a large area of land and is growing all manner of veggies in polytunnels and selling them to the public.

Bill is very keen on his onion growing (see Members Faces - Bill - Bill's garden) and Kar is an enthusiastic beginner at veggie growing.

If there are lots of you who want a separate veggie site, post your message onto this thread. Its no trouble to set up a separate Forum.
Pip.

Hi Ray,
Im an avid organic veg grower, and would love to swop tales and advice !! Being a pro gardener time is limited on what I can do on my plot,BUT, some of my customers have good veg plots using organic and chem methods, I usually have free rein on what I grow and how so keep in touch

Hi Ray,

I am a keen veg grower too, I am still learning as I have only had my garden a few years. I try to use organic methods as much as possible but will use chemicals as a last resort rather than lose my crops. It is winter here and so it 's rather quiet in the garden. I am cutting cabbages (my favourite variety -minicole ) and will soon be picking brussel sprouts and digging up leeks.
There is a wealth of knowledge amongst the members of this site and they all love a challenge, so put them to the test if you have any questions.
I look forward to hearing how and what veg you grow in USA

Hi Alan

I am in Hampshire, and yes its leaves everywhere here too. My 'veg garden' is an allotment but I was not sure if they would know about them in USA.
Talking about leaves, I see one of my allotment neighbours collects them in black plastic bags which he puts in a line along his runner bean trench . Then in early summer he just tips out the rotted leaves into his trench and digs them in.
My worst failures have been swede, any tips on how to grow them would be much appreciated.

Go along with all Alan said, but have you tried growing pots under black plastic?? Its a great method, work hard to set it up but the results are fantastic. Raised bed no dig system is also a great method of growing crops and once up and running is second to none!!
Need to keep the compost going but thats fun aswell, the greenhouse is where I fail miserably, but, we all have an Achiles Heel !!
Try producing your own feed using Comfrey it replaces nearly all your need for chem feeding and stinks to high heaven, have fun !!!

Veg Gardening.      Allan Day.      29/12/01.
Hi this is Allan Day. As Pip says I devote a large part of my time to vegetable gardening. I suggest for a start that you would be very welome to join in at kitchen garden e-group where you will be in the company of over 300 companion gardeners. You will find full details at www.kitchengardens@dial.pipex.com. I am also at present working on a new website which in due course should be unde the name of veg-in and will give you much of the sort of information you won't find in gardening reference books based largely on my own experience. For the moment if you e-mail me at allan-day@lineone.net I will be happy to help over specific problems.
