Goldfish Plant.      My Gardener.      4/1/02.
Hi Moth,
Columnea, perenial, some have velvety foliage, some smooth. Flowers are showy, tubular and hooded, orange and yellow with sightly fleshy leaves. This the one ??Trails 2ft or more and should flower through Oct to April.Min Winter temp 13c. Needs slight shade and to be sprayed in summer.Grow in 3 paryts peat (?) and 1 part sphagnam moss. You can take cuttings March till May when temp is 21c.
Only reason for the leaves to drop that I can think of is overwatering , not spraying or letting the tenp drop too far
Hope this helps Alan.

Hi Moth

Sometimes a shock to the system works with houseplants.

In the past when I have had this sort of thing happening I have knocked the plant out of the pot - checked for rot on the roots, and if it was present, trimmed them up, then repotted in the appropriate mixture, moisten slightly and then leave in a cool place to recover.

I have then sometimes been brutal with the top of the plant by giving it what I call 'a haircut'. By this time the plant looks quite sorry for itself but frequently it recovers when all else fails.

Ideally if this happens in the summer a good place is a shady spot in the garden - but not to be recommended at this time of year.

Ive tried this on various different plants when I have been about to give up on them. If you are at that stage then its worth a try - you've got nothing to loose

Pip.
