Gardening Question or Crossword Question?      Pipnsox.    11/11/01
Glenda has just been asking a question in RG chat. Not sure where I should post it - in here or on the Message Board - so Ive posted it both places :-)

I know this might sound a bit of an obscure question but I have come across this in my weekly crossowrd and haven't got a clue.
The question is:- Of a plant, having flowers that open and close at specific regular times (11 letters)? I have some letters namely E ? I ?? O ? T ?? L
Can you please help me?

Question?      Alan Gould.    14/11/01.
This question has also been mailed to Country Garden Forum at expertgardener.com. Yes, I would say that it is a gardening question, though it is also a crossword one.

I've looked through the list of words in the Glossary of Terms of the RHS A-Z Enc. of Garden Plants and I cannot find one which would fit the letter arrangement given. I'll be interested to know the answer when it is published.

Although I think one letter may be wrong.
The big dictionary here matches patterns so just put full stops for the letters you don't know.

Question?      Alan G.    16/11/01.
The word EQUINOCTIAL has been suggested (by Jean Jones in EG) as the answer to the clue.

Equinoctial.      Alan. B.    16/11/01.

This is where the question becomes more a crosswording one than a gardening one. The clue referred to flower opening times and for a crossworder the reference would be sufficient, but few gardeners (including me) will have that word in their vocabulary. BTW, the given letter arrangement was inaccurate in giving the I as third rather than fourth.
